HOT TOPIC: A most explosive issue

Ridding all nations of nuclear weapons creates a safer world, or so the prevailing logic goes. Now comes Jonathan Tepperman in a recent Newsweek essay maintaining the opposite. He points to the 64 year abstinence since Nagasaki of even non-nuclear wars between nations capable of waging them.

Counterintuitive as it appears the argument that nukes strike such fear they actually induce deterrence may have validity.

What do you think?

  1. When you totally incapacitate a country, I guess it would naturally lay low as a result of a nuclear attack. I really hope that the general public doesn't migrate toward this bazaar point of view.

  2. Instead of coming from the belief that a nuclear attack creates deterence from a responce, let's hope that rational people will see that dialogue will generate more progress in a shorter amount of time than waiting 64 years to make sure the contracy point of view is correct.

  4. It's too scary to hear that people supposedly in responsible positions think this way more less have access to public's ear.

  5. The world is in great trouble if all people adopt Mr. Tepperman's POV.
